my creative space – cake stand

It is not as easy as you might think to drill a hole through three ceramic plates and add spacers.  I drilled about 9 test holes before i did the real hole.  I also watched 3 You Tube videos (can’t remember which ones so can’t leave a link sorry) and still i made lots of mistakes.

Tips: Don’t mark the centres of your plates with a big permanent ink texta, the ink will rub off with metho but i found it had also left a light permanent mark on my three Royal Doulton plates – most disappointing.

Tape a block of wood under the plate, seems to mean the ceramics chip less.

Keep the drill bit wet.

Every plate is different, old english china drills a treat, the new stuff us very tough to get started through.

Challenging project, enjoyed it but a tonne of work getting it just right.

I admire your bravery. This is something I’ve thought about, but have never drummed up the courage to attempt. Yours looks just lovely, ready for some cucumber sandwiches (crust cut off of course). Hoping you enjoy endless high teas.
PS: where does one pick up the screwie in between bits from?

It’s looks pretty good Miss Rockmelon! You were brave drilling them. Did you already have a cakestand with plates? My mum has one that she got for a wedding present over 50 years ago – I love it. She never used it (because it was too good), till last year when I pulled it out of the cupboard at Christmas! Enjoy using yours. 🙂
